Therapeutics – The vision of healing metabolic diseases

The Need for innovative therapeutics

Today metabolic diseases are considered to be “chronic progressive”. This simply means that until now no one has found a therapy that can stop them, or even reverse them.

The main reason for this is that the treatment focusses on certain secondary and concomitant parameters, like elevated blood glucose, elevated blood values and others. It is of course, important to reduce these more symptomatic parameters, as they pose risks in themselves. However, they are not the underlying cause of the metabolic disorder.

Our break-through approach

We, instead, look at the mRNAs as the drivers of pathology of metabolic disorders. mRNAs are instrumental in the genesis of disbalances of the energy metabolism. Many of these disbalances have their origin in the subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) which has grown dysfunctional over lifetime. Among the influencing factors that lead to these disbalances are age, environmental factors, life-style, and as well hazard.

Our therapy concepts address the mRNAs of the SAT. They enable to rebalance a dysfunctional into an again healthy and functional SAT that can fulfil its role within an effective and healthy energy metabolism.

Our solutions

Lipocyte develops new therapy concepts based on gene expression analyses of the SAT. Unhealthy patterns of mRNA-clusters are rebalanced by targeted and time-restricted interventions.

Therapy-concepts range from administrations on protein-level to rebalancing mRNA-levels through ncRNAs. These concepts are targeted, addressing specific disorders and diseases. In the long run we plan as well to develop a broader therapy concept aiming at revitalising the SAT in general with a broader effect on a range of metabolic diseases.

We will develop therapy concepts in-house to preclinical level. Further trials will be concluded in co-operations.

The first therapy concepts will enter preclinical stage in 2024.

TC - Mat

This therapy concept addresses an adipose tissue with a high percentage of immature adipocytes. Maturing these immature adipocytes (pre-adipocytes) will increase the functionality of the adipose tissue within the energy metabolism.

TC - Diff

Older and stressed adipose tissue looses its functionality. A de-differentiation of the adipose tissue allows the fat cells to return from an imbalanced state into a more functional state. In simple words, this concept can be called a "rejuvenation" of the SAT.

TC - Inf

The concept aims at moderating SAT which has a tendency to inflammation. Inflammation in the adipose tissue causes a reduced functionality. Reducing inflammatory processes increases the functionality of the SAT.

Further therapy concepts

These concepts will target on specific mRNAs to achieve clearly defined improvements of a patients SAT.

Breaking new ground for
diagnostics, therapeutics and prevention

Diagnostics

mRNA-analysis of the SAT offers deep and completely new insights into the energy metabolism. Especially with metabolic diseases the current dynamics of the body and influences over life-time play a far greater role than genetic dispositions

Therapeutics

The key to successful treatment of metabolic diseases lies in the intervention with disease-causing on-going biological processes. As the mRNA of the SAT are to a great extent the drivers of pathology of these diseases, they offer a strong lever for therapy.

Prevention

A great advantage of mRNA-analysis of the subcutaneous adipose tissue lies in the very early detection of unhealthy developments of the metabolism long before any signs can be seen in blood-analysis or any symptoms become apparent. It is, therefore, a powerful component in preventive personalised medicine.
